Assurity has invited industry leader Michael Bolton to run two workshops in April – Rapid Software Testing and Critical Thinking Skills for Testers.

With more than 20 years’ experience in testing, developing, managing and writing about software, Michael currently leads Toronto-based consultancy DevelopSense.

Rapid Software Testing

15-17 April 2013

A three-day intensive, hands-on workshop that addresses a number of issues for testers. As a tester, you might find it difficult to assess the time and effort needed to test effectively or feel overwhelmed by approaches to test planning, design and execution. Or you might want to learn the skills and techniques to become a better tester.

This course will teach you via testing, working on exercises, puzzles, thoughts, experiments and scenarios how to test anything expertly, under extreme time pressure and conditions of uncertainty in a way that will stand up to scrutiny.

Experienced testers will discover how to articulate the intellectual processes of testing that they practise intuitively.

You’ll discover how Rapid Software Testing is a complete methodology and a mission-focused approach to testing.

Prices: Early bird (bookings made more than one month before start of course) $2,200+GST

Critical Thinking Skills for Testers

19 April 2013

During this one-day workshop, Michael Bolton teaches testers of all levels the strategies and skills to deal confidently with difficult testing situations.

Testers live in a world of enormous complexity, scarce information and extraordinary time pressure. This workshop will give you the questioning skills and critical, context-driven and general systems thinking to deal thoughtfully with these conditions.

Questioning the myths of software testing – such as “You can’t manage what you can’t measure” – the workshop will examine common cognitive biases and the critical thinking tools that can help manage them. You will learn modeling and general systems approaches to manage complexity and observational challenges while working through exercises that model difficult testing problems.

Prices: Early bird (bookings made more than one month before start of course) $800+GST

Standard $900+GST

A 15% discount is available on both courses for groups of five or more.

Venue: Cliftons Training Centre, The Majestic Centre, 100 Willis Street, Wellington.
