The country’s leading provider of software testing and quality assurance solutions Assurity Consulting has won a competitive tender to provide testing services to Stats NZ Tatauranga Aotearoa.

The government organisation sought a relationship with a provider of specialist testing capabilities and skills to become its Census Test Partner and will play a key role in eliminating any software, systems or process issues ahead of the 2023 Census, the official count of population and dwellings in New Zealand, providing a measure of NZ society every five years.

After a tender process that ended in July 2020, Assurity was selected as Stats NZ’s testing partner, supporting the development of a Census programme strategy covering testing of IT systems and processes as well as non-IT testing of business processes and field operations for the 2023 Census.

“Assurity was selected based on our proven experience delivering large complex projects with innovative approaches to non-traditional test activities, such as Customer Interaction testing at Inland Revenue. Our test experience and innovation has given Stats NZ full confidence in our ability to execute non-IT testing, while we offer a long track record of success in the more traditional IT testing space. Our proposed approach to Stats pulled together our expertise across Test Strategy & Management, Test Automation and techniques from our Business Analysis, Agile, DevOps and Design Thinking services to propose a cohesive approach to testing across the Census, which worked for IT and non-IT testing,” says Assurity Consulting CEO, Garth Hamilton.

With an enviable track record in the delivery of quality assurance for software and human systems within government and the private sector, Hamilton added the company is already busy at Stats NZ. “We are delighted to be chosen as the Census Test Partner. We’re delivering several streams of work focused on bringing a human centred approach to Census 2023. Our test experience and innovation alongside complementary services including DevOps, Business Analysis and Design Thinking combines for a comprehensive set of services targeted at improving performance and optimising value from investments in Census 2023.”

Finally, Hamilton concludes that Assurity has proposed cross-branch delivery of its Test strategy. “This aligns well with the nationwide structure necessary in Stats NZ’s delivery of Census 2023.”
