Lindsey Gibbs joins Assurity’s Wellington branch as a Senior Test Manager. Her passion for helping deliver projects using Lean Testing practices fits perfectly with our philosophy of quality at speed. We asked Lindsey about her background and what drives her in work and outside of it...

What’s your background?

I've been in testing since 1995 when Excel and Word were the basis for all testing documentation. I started life as a tester for IKANO Financial Bank (IKEA's sister company) testing a new GUI front end to replace old-school mainframe systems.

I then moved up the ranks from Tester, Test Lead, Test Manager and to my previous role as Head of Testing at Thomson Reuters, Experian, Boots, Dunelm and University of Nottingham. Oh, the good old days when 50-page test plans were normal, functional specifications were 300 pages and Agile was a distant, shining star.

Why did you join Assurity?

While looking for a role, I found Assurity and was blown away by the values and culture. After my first conversation, I knew I wanted to work here and be part of this family. Everything I've read and talked about with my fellow co-workers all comes across as being very people-focused – something I've very rarely come across. Assurity has the sense of putting the employee at the heart of the company. Every voice matters which was important to me when seeking a new employer. I really wanted to work for a company I could be proud of. Assurity is that place.

What’s your role at Assurity?

I'm a Senior Test Manager so I work with our clients to ensure that the testing phases of a project or programme flow as smoothly as possible and ensure that we achieve what the client expects. I adore testing and hope that my enthusiasm will rub off on the people around me to have a happy team and a happy client.

What do few people know about you?

I moved to New Zealand with my other half, our son and daughter who keep us on our toes. Weekends are usually spent being the kids’ taxi service. Fun fact, my dream came true appearing on a British TV programme in the ‘80s and also as a contestant on UK's Bargain Hunt (and we won!). When I was younger, to earn some extra money in my spare time, I worked as a security guard for WWF wrestling, as a stage bouncer for Disney on Ice and I've also been a special police constable doing riot training. I’ve also arrested someone.

An easy one… what makes you happy?

My kids. My life revolves around them. Baking, this is a great de-stress activity. I've baked a lot of celebration cakes, including wedding cakes. I can lose myself in making decorations. I love playing the piano which I've been doing since I was seven. I also love going to the theatre. I've sung opera on various stages and worked backstage – the Minack Theatre in Cornwall being the most impressive on the cliff edge with the sun setting behind it. There can be nothing more exciting than when that curtain goes up.

What's your favourite place you've visited and why?

I adore everything Disney, so my favourite place has got to be Disney World in Florida. I've been three times and can't get enough of it. It's such a magical experience to see your kids’ faces the first time they meet Mickey Mouse.

What's your go-to song on Spotify?

I'm old school and was a big raver in the ‘90s, so The Prodigy would be on there and Ministry of Sound. But I do have quite a varied taste in music so it could be classical, light opera (Gilbert and Sullivan) through to Queen and Stone Roses.
