Upgrade your career. Upskill to Agile

Date: 06 March 2019

Agile no longer only applies to IT and software development. To survive in this new disruptive world, teams must adopt Agile across the whole organisation to respond more rapidly to changes in the marketplace.

A 2017 Deloitte survey of more than 10,000 business leaders in 140 countries revealed that 94% report that ‘agility and collaboration’ are critical to their organisations’ success.

Some jobs will disappear

Add to the mix the exponential growth in computing power, advancements in Artificial Intelligence, Virtual and Augmented Reality and growing automation capabilities and academics are predicting not just job losses, but the complete disappearance of some jobs.

Oxford University predicts that as many as 47% of current jobs will no longer exist in 25 years. So what does that mean for the skill set you will need for the future?

The best jobs that stay need Agile knowledge

In a LinkedIn blog on the most promising jobs of 2019, 11 of the top 15 jobs require at least a working knowledge of Agile.

Along with the technical skills needed for your job and a working knowledge of Agile, you will also need a range of soft skills to remain competitive in the future workforce. The top five in-demand soft skills from the LinkedIn blog are:

  1. Creativity
  2. Persuasion
  3. Collaboration
  4. Adaptability
  5. Time Management

Many of the soft skills needed are an integral part of Agile frameworks and Agile ways of working, adding even greater importance to the need to upskill to Agile.

In future, when you make it to the interview stage of a job application, the interviewers will assume that you have the technical skills for the job at hand. Instead, the focus of the interview will be to determine your knowledge and experience of working in Agile and to assess your abilities in a wide range of soft skills. Will you be ready?
